Oracle has issued a request for proposals seeking 2 gigawatts of new renewable generation capacity in New Mexico, covering solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable technologies for delivery between 2027 and 2031, the company disclosed on September 9. The procurement effort forms part of Oracle's Project Jupiter commitment to achieve 100% carbon-free energy for its rapidly expanding fleet of AI data centers, with responses to the RFP requested by November 6, 2026.
The scale of the request underscores the sheer magnitude of electricity demand now being driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout, as major cloud providers race to construct data center capacity capable of supporting increasingly compute-intensive AI training and inference workloads.
