xStep, a neurotechnology company built around non-invasive spinal neuromodulation, has secured an investment from Titan Capital to expand its rehabilitation platform across India, in one of the more closely watched healthtech deals of the week.

Founded by neuroscientist Dr Parag Gad, xStep pairs spinal neuromodulation with structured physical rehabilitation to treat conditions that have historically had limited, slow-progress treatment pathways — including cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis.

The company's approach sits at the intersection of hardware, clinical protocol design and outcomes measurement. Rather than relying solely on surgical intervention, xStep's non-invasive neuromodulation technology is intended to be combined with guided physical therapy, with the goal of helping the nervous system relearn motor patterns disrupted by injury or neurological disease. More than 1,000 people have already been treated or supported through the company's technology and associated clinical programmes, according to the company, with over 25 clinical studies and evidence-generation efforts under way across 20 countries.

The fresh capital will fund commercial expansion, manufacturing capacity, further clinical evidence generation and regulatory work — the last of which is often the longest and most capital-intensive phase for medical device companies seeking to move from pilot deployments to mainstream clinical adoption.

xStep has also launched xStep One, a dedicated neurorehabilitation centre in Bengaluru that pairs its spinal neuromodulation technology with Trexo Robotics' wearable robotic gait trainer — an integration that reflects a broader trend in rehabilitation medicine toward combining multiple assistive technologies within a single, coordinated care pathway rather than treating each device in isolation.

Titan Capital's involvement adds to a growing list of early-stage investors willing to back capital-intensive, evidence-heavy medtech ventures in India, a category that has historically struggled to attract venture funding relative to software-first healthtech start-ups, given the longer timelines required for clinical validation and regulatory clearance.

For patients and families navigating conditions such as cerebral palsy or the aftermath of a stroke, treatment options in India have often been constrained by cost, availability of specialised rehabilitation centres and the slow diffusion of newer neuromodulation techniques from research settings into everyday clinical practice. xStep's expansion — backed now by fresh institutional capital — represents an attempt to close that gap, betting that a combination of non-invasive technology, structured rehabilitation and an expanding evidence base can shift neurorehabilitation from a niche specialty into a more widely accessible category of care.
