Indie Game Publisher 1312 Interactive Raises $1 Million Seed Round Led by Chimera and TAC

1312 Interactive, an Indian video game publisher focused on indie and AA titles, has raised $1 million in seed funding in a round led by Chimera Venture Capital and TAC, with additional participation from Ventana and a group of angel investors including Rahul Reddy G, Rohan MC and Nara Srinivas. The Bengaluru-based company, founded by Deepak Gurijala and Raviteja Mantena, said the capital will be used to expand its indie game publishing operations across emerging markets and to sharpen its focus on premium PC and console titles.

The round follows an earlier pre-seed raise backed by a notable group of gaming-industry figures, including Nodwin Gaming co-founder Akshat Rathee, Gautam Virk, Rajat Ojha, Sridhar Muppidi, Tanay Tayal, the founders of Playsimple Games, Vatsal Chintalpati and Rick Herman — a roster that reflects the tight-knit, operator-heavy nature of India's still-nascent but rapidly maturing gaming investment community.

India's gaming sector has attracted growing attention from venture investors over the past several years, driven largely by the explosive growth of mobile gaming and real-money gaming platforms serving the country's vast smartphone user base. Indie and premium PC or console publishing, by contrast, remains a comparatively under-capitalised niche within the broader Indian gaming ecosystem, which has historically skewed toward casual and hyper-casual mobile titles aimed at mass-market monetisation rather than premium, narrative-driven experiences typical of AA and indie development.

1312 Interactive's strategy of publishing rather than solely developing games allows it to spread risk across a portfolio of titles while building a brand around curation.

1312 Interactive's strategy of publishing rather than solely developing games allows the company to work with a portfolio of studios, spreading risk across multiple titles while building a brand identity around curation and quality rather than any single game's commercial performance. The company also said it is introducing 1312 Playground, described as a community-led player feedback initiative, suggesting an effort to build closer, more direct relationships between developers and players — a model that has proven effective for boutique publishers in more mature gaming markets in North America, Europe and East Asia.

For emerging-market gaming publishers, the path to sustainable economics typically runs through platform partnerships, distribution relationships and, increasingly, cross-border publishing deals that let smaller studios access larger audiences without building out their own international marketing infrastructure. 1312 Interactive's stated focus on expanding into other emerging markets suggests the company sees an opportunity to replicate India's growing appetite for premium gaming content in geographies with similarly under-served indie ecosystems.

The seed round adds to a small but growing list of institutional investments in India's non-mobile gaming segment, a category that industry participants have long argued is poised for growth as disposable incomes rise, gaming hardware becomes more accessible, and a generation of Indian gamers raised on console and PC titles matures into a paying audience for premium content. Whether 1312 Interactive can convert this early institutional backing into a scalable publishing business will depend heavily on its ability to identify and sign commercially viable titles from both Indian and international independent studios.

The deal is a modest but notable data point in India's broader startup funding landscape for September 2026, illustrating that early-stage capital continues to flow into niche categories even as investors overall have grown more selective, favouring founders and business models with clear, differentiated theses over broader market narratives.
