IdeaForge's Revenue Jumps Over 5X to Rs 69 Crore in Q1 FY27 as Drone Maker Turns EBITDA-Positive and Raises Rs 500 Crore

IdeaForge Technology, India's largest maker of unmanned aircraft systems, reported revenue from operations of Rs 68.6 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, more than five times the Rs 12.8 crore it posted in the same quarter a year earlier, when the company was grappling with a sharp order-execution slowdown. The Mumbai-listed drone maker also turned EBITDA-positive during the quarter, marking a second consecutive period of improving financial performance after a difficult FY26 in which the company's Q1 revenue had collapsed 85% year-on-year.

The company said it executed over 20% of its FY27 opening order book during the quarter, even as global supply chain disruptions and component availability constraints — challenges that have persisted since Q4 of FY26 — continued to pose headwinds. Management reiterated its commitment to completing delivery of the full FY27 opening order book by the third quarter, in line with customer timelines.

"Q1 FY27 marked a steady start to the year, supported by continued execution and advancement across key strategic developmental initiatives," said Ankit Mehta, Co-Founder and CEO of IdeaForge Technology, commenting on the results. The quarter was also a symbolic milestone for the company: its indigenous UAV fleet crossed one million cumulative customer flights across a range of challenging terrains and conditions, a figure the company points to as evidence of the reliability and autonomy of its platforms in real-world defence and civil deployments.

IdeaForge used the quarter to strengthen its balance sheet meaningfully. The company raised Rs 500 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement that drew strong participation from marquee domestic and international institutional investors, giving it fresh capital to support its expanding order pipeline and fund new technology development. Separately, the company received a Letter of Intent from the Government of India under the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme for financial assistance of up to Rs 151 crore to support development of YETI, its middle-mile logistics drone platform capable of carrying payloads of up to 200 kilograms across ranges of up to 200 kilometres depending on load.

The Q1 FY27 numbers follow a strong finish to the previous fiscal year. IdeaForge closed FY26 with record quarterly revenue of Rs 141 crore in Q4 alone, an EBITDA margin of 52.6%, and full-year revenue of Rs 286.1 crore against Rs 161 crore in FY25 — a recovery built on the highest-ever annual order bookings in the company's history, at approximately Rs 530 crore combined across defence and civil customers. The company narrowed its full-year FY26 net loss to Rs 17 crore, from Rs 62.3 crore in FY25, as order execution and cost discipline began to show through in the numbers.

IdeaForge remains India's market leader in unmanned aircraft systems and was the first domestic company to develop VTOL hybrid UAVs and high-altitude drones, ranking third globally among dual-use drone manufacturers serving both civil and defence markets. Its FY27 guidance points to blended gross margins in the 50-55% range, with management flagging continued investment in electronic-warfare resilience and next-generation platforms as strategic priorities, alongside a widening focus on export markets — the company has separately signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Japan's DMP to co-develop AI-powered drones for the Japanese market.

For a company whose fortunes have swung sharply between quarters over the past two years — a symptom of the lumpy, order-driven nature of defence-adjacent hardware manufacturing — the combination of a fivefold revenue jump, positive EBITDA, a fresh Rs 500 crore capital cushion and a government-backed push into new product categories gives IdeaForge a materially stronger platform heading into the remainder of FY27. Whether the company can convert its expanding order book into consistent quarter-on-quarter delivery, rather than the boom-bust pattern of recent years, will be the key metric investors and customers alike will be watching over the next two quarters.

The volatility in IdeaForge's recent quarterly numbers is itself instructive about the structural nature of India's defence and dual-use drone manufacturing sector: unlike a subscription software business, revenue recognition here is tied tightly to discrete delivery milestones against government and enterprise contracts, meaning a single delayed shipment or component shortage can swing a quarter from profit to loss regardless of underlying order-book health. That dynamic makes the RDI loan-in-principle for YETI particularly significant beyond its headline value, since government-backed development funding of this kind is typically tied to milestone-based disbursement that can smooth out some of the working-capital pressure that has historically amplified IdeaForge's quarter-to-quarter swings. With India's broader push toward domestic defence manufacturing and drone indigenisation continuing to expand the addressable market for companies like IdeaForge, the more consequential test may not be this quarter's numbers but whether the company can scale order execution predictably enough to convert its technology leadership into the kind of steady, compounding growth that public market investors have historically rewarded more than volatile, order-lumpy results.
