Novastar Partners, an India-focused private markets investment platform, has announced its maiden investment, backing A Junior VC (AJVC), an early-stage venture capital fund founded by Aviral Bhatnagar. The investment marks the start of what Novastar describes as a broader strategy to build a diversified portfolio of high-quality funds and operating businesses across India's private markets, with a particular focus on technology and tech-enabled companies.
AJVC has positioned itself as a platform dedicated to India's pre-seed ecosystem, an investment stage that has historically been underserved relative to the country's more developed Series A and growth-stage funding markets. Novastar's backing will support AJVC's continued deployment into this segment, while giving Novastar itself indirect exposure to companies at the earliest stages of development across sectors including artificial intelligence, healthcare, deep tech, consumer technology and branded consumer businesses.
The deal reflects a broader structural trend in how sophisticated investors are approaching India's private markets: rather than building direct early-stage investment capabilities from scratch, some platforms are choosing instead to back specialist fund managers who already have deep networks and deal flow at a particular stage of the market. For Novastar, backing AJVC offers a capital-efficient way to gain exposure to India's pre-seed ecosystem without needing to build out its own dedicated early-stage sourcing and diligence infrastructure.
